Annotated catalogue of the Nepticulidae and Opostegidae (Lepidoptera: Nepticuloidea) of the Iberian Peninsula Naturalis

The Nepticulidae and Opostegidae of mainland Spain (including the Balearic Islands), Portugal, Gibraltar and Andorra are listed. All previous literature records are given, and interpreted where needed. Detailed records are given for material collected and /or studied by us. In total 102 Nepticulidae and 5 Opostegidae are listed. Stigmella nivenburgensis (Preissecker, 1942), S. rhamnella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1860), S. crenulatae (Klimesch, 1975) (on new host Rhamnus lycioides), S. sorbi (Stainton, 1861), Trifurcula (Trifurcula) beirnei Puplesis, 1984, Ectoedemia (Fomoria) euphorbiella (Stainton, 1869) (on three new hosts in the genus Euphorbia) and E. Contribution to the knowledge of the Ichneumoninae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) from the Iberian Peninsula Naturalis

In this paper 15 genera and 23 (sub)species of Ichneumoninae housed in the National Natuurhistorisch Museum, Leiden, are reported from the Iberian Peninsula. New data about the distribution and the related species are added.

Genealogy of the nuclear β-fibrinogen intron 7 in Lissotriton boscai (Caudata, Salamandridae): concordance with mtDNA and implications for phylogeography and speciation Naturalis

The power of phylogeographic inference resides in its ability to integrate information from multiple sources in an iterative hypothesis-testing framework. In this paper, we build upon previous mtDNA-based hypotheses about the evolutionary history of the Iberian newt Lissotriton boscai using sequences of the highly variable nuclear β-fibrinogen intron 7. In addition to the nuclear sequences, we produced new mtDNA data across the species range to delineate contact zones and test the congruence between nuclear and mitochondrial datasets at the same level of spatial organization. Geographic variability of sardine dynamics in the Iberian Biscay region ArchiMer

The spatio-temporal variability in the distribution, demographic structure, recruitment, and mortality of sardine within the Iberian Biscay region is described using area-disaggregated data collected during acoustic surveys and at ports since the mid-1980s. Multiple regression models were used to describe log numbers-at-age obtained annually in ten areas covered by three surveys to test the existence of geographic differences in selectivity-at-age, recruitment strength, and mortality and to infer plausible migration routes. Within Iberian waters, sardine biomass was mainly concentrated off western Portugal and the Gulf of Cadiz. In the Bay of Biscay, biomass levels were comparable with those off western Portugal. Morphological characterization, cytogenetic analysis, and geographical distribution of the Pygmy Marbled Newt Triturus marmoratus pygmaeus (Wolterstorff, 1905) (Caudata: Salamandridae) Naturalis

Triturus marmoratus pygmaeus, a problematic subspecies of the Marbled Newt from the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula, is redescribed using specimens collected in the “typical” area. Diagnostic external morphological features are provided to permit the accurate determination of the specimens belonging either to T. m. marmoratus or to T. m. pygmaeus. These diagnostic features were applied to individuals both from the field and from museum collections. The results indicate a larger distributional area for T. m. pygmaeus than was previously recognized. The distribution of T. m. marmoratus ranges over the northern half of the Iberian Peninsula and most of France; T. m. pygmaeus occupies the southwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula. From now on, the genus Bragasellus Henry & Magniez, 1968 includes 2 oculated and 17 stygobiotic species. As a natural and monophyletic taxonomic unit, we consider it a good genus. Its original area corresponds to the north-west quarter of the Iberian Peninsula. Secondarily, this area has extended eastward, using mainly the alluvial channels of hydrographic systems (Ríos Douro + Ebro and tributaries), finally reaching the underground waters of several Mediterranean rivers. This active expansion is exclusively due to the migration of two stygobiotic sibling species: B. lagari Henry & Magniez, 1973 towards the high basin of the Río Tajo, then downstream to the basins of the Ríos Jucar and Turia (Prov. The European sardine (Sardina pilchardus) is the most important small pelagic fishery of the Western Iberia Upwelling Ecosystem (WIUE). Recently, recruitment of this species has declined due to changing environmental conditions. Sharpening the species boundaries in the Cladonia mediterranea complex (Cladoniaceae, Ascomycota) Naturalis

The complex Cladonia mediterranea belongs to the section Impexae and is formed by C. azorica, C. macaronesica and C. mediterranea. These species are basically distributed in the Mediterranean and Macaronesian Regions. In the present work the limits between the species of this complex are re-examined. To this end, the morphological characters were studied along with the secondary metabolites and the DNA sequences from three loci (ITS rDNA, IGS rDNA and rpb2).
